What is a cashmere comb?

A cashmere comb is a special care tool that was developed to remove pilling, or simply to remove annoying lint, from cashmere clothing or wool textiles. You will often find a cashmere comb under the name pilling comb. Our cashmere comb from Princess Goes Hollywood is specially made from beech wood and comes to you in an elegant cotton bag. Handy and practical, it reliably removes fiber balls from sweaters, scarves or cardigans.

What are the benefits of using a cashmere comb?

Using a cashmere comb offers numerous advantages, especially when it comes to removing lint and caring for the material. Unlike long-haired trimmers, which can damage delicate cashmere or wool, the cashmere comb removes lint gently and effectively without affecting the structure of the material. This gentle application preserves the softness and elegance of the fabric.

Another key advantage is the durability of the material. A cashmere comb can ensure that garments retain their original condition for longer. Old sweaters and other garments can also be upgraded in this way. Regular, careful combing ensures that lint and pilling are removed before they can set in. This not only contributes to the aesthetics, but also supports the natural softness of the fibers and makes them easy to care for.

A one-time investment in a high-quality wooden cashmere comb can ensure that your favorite pieces retain their original quality even after a long time.

What exactly is pilling in cashmere and wool fabrics?

Pilling is a common problem in cashmere and wool fabrics that can affect both the aesthetics and longevity of these luxurious materials. It is the formation of small, unsightly balls or fuzz on the surface of the fabric caused by the friction and movement of the fibers. Particularly in high-quality fabrics such as cashmere, known for its softness and warmth, pilling can create an undesirable appearance that reduces the shine and elegance of the material.

What causes pilling?

Pilling is mainly caused by friction and movement. When clothes are worn or put in the washing machine, frictional forces are created by contact with other fabrics and movement. This friction causes small fibers to come loose and intertwine, forming the characteristic pills.

Short-fiber and synthetic materials are particularly affected, as their smooth surfaces and low friction encourage pilling. Synthetic materials such as polyester or nylon tend to be less stable and therefore contribute to increased pilling.

Although the resulting pills may be visually disturbing, they are generally not harmful to the functionality of the textile. Nevertheless, you want to avoid unpleasant lint formation in order to preserve the appearance of the clothing.

How can you prevent pilling?

First of all, you can of course use our cashmere comb to ensure that the small knots do not get stuck and are removed gently. Simply use the comb at regular intervals to prevent pilling.

The correct washing methods are also important: for example, wash cashmere and wool sweaters carefully and exactly according to the instructions on the labels. You should use a detergent specially developed for these fabrics, such as our liquid detergent for cashmere and wool .

Washing in laundry bags and then storing them in cloth bags prevents contact with other items of clothing and can also prevent the formation of lint.
